Olive Wood from Bethlehem

Olive wood has always been synonymous with The Holy Land.  Christian families began crafting artwork out of olive wood in Bethlehem more than 300 years ago. This is truly a distinct and unique art form.
The olive was one of the most valuable trees to the ancient Hebrews.  It is first mentioned in Scripture when the dove returned to Noah’s ark carrying an olive branch in its beak (Gen.8:11).  Since that time, the olive branch has been a symbol of “peace” to the world, and we often hear the expression, “extending an olive branch” to another person as a desire for peace.
A tree in the Garden of Eden whose fruit imparts eternal life (Gen. 3:22–24).

Woodcarvers work olive wood into these beautiful pieces from young tree prunings or from older trees that no longer yield any fruit. This seasonal pruning process creates a healthier tree. You can be assured that no olive tree has been damaged or destroyed during the pruning and harvesting of the olive wood.

The grainy texture of this unique hard wood is found in these arid fields of Bethlehem. Old trees dating back before Christ in the West Bank region of Palestine hold darker grains of this wood. The more water starved the tree the darker the wood and more pronounced the tree rings. As a result no two pieces are the same - even when they carved from the same tree.
We invite you to look at the beautiful pieces we have selected for you....Meaningful, beautiful and spiritual - these pieces are truly beautiful and unique!!
